Since everyone’s goal is to become a director, why increase the uncertainty by engaging in ‘warfare’? It is more profitable to compromise and make some concessions. The BCB board of directors election is moving towards a compromise after two rounds of talks between the government and the BNP-backed parties on Friday. Since then, the heat surrounding the October 6 election has subsided considerably. The distribution of ‘seats’ (read directorships) is also more or less complete.

Meanwhile, the Category-2 or Club Category elections are spreading heat due to divisions and dissatisfaction among themselves. The actual club organizers are standing alone in the election as the club is giving preference to BNP leaders and sons as director candidates. The club organizers did not take well to the idea of forming a panel excluding them, as evidenced by the fact that only 32 out of 76 councilors submitted nomination papers for the 12 director positions in this category.

Yesterday, 30 of them submitted it, except for Kakrail Boys Club councilor and current BCB director Salahuddin Chowdhury and Brothers councilor and Ishraq Hossain, son of late BNP leader Sadeq Hossain.

However, four other BNP leaders have submitted their nomination papers as councilors of the four clubs: Omar Sharif Md. Imran, son of Barkatullah Bulu, Mirza Abbas’s son Mirza Yasir Abbas, Israfil Khasru, son of Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, son of Salahuddin Ahmed.

In the government-BNP ‘seat sharing’, current board president Aminul Islam is said to be the only candidate for the future president so far. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal, who entered the election field with a grand rally with the support of his political allies and the BNP, is on the back foot.

It is learnt that in the agreement, Tamim has been given the responsibility of forming a Center of Excellence, along with making him the head of the Cricket Management Department for the time being, and has been assured of fulfilling his dream. Although there are rumors that he may get one of the two vice-presidential positions, due to the rift between the clubs, the same rumors are about others and that is stronger.

However, it is fairly certain that two directors from the same club will receive both vice-presidential positions.
